Introducing the Fractional Sustainability Leaders Collective
A new model for embedded, strategic sustainability leadership
April 29, 2025
The Fractional Sustainability Leaders Collective (FSL Collective) launched today as the first professional association for experienced sustainability leaders working in fractional roles. Known as Fractional Sustainability Leaders (FSLs), members of the Collective bridge the gap between consultants and in-house executives. FSLs are embedded within organizations on a part-time basis—guiding strategy, leading execution, and helping businesses integrate sustainability into core operations.
The FSL Collective provides these leaders with a homebase for connection, collaboration, and credibility—while offering companies, especially those newer to sustainability, a trusted resource for accessing top-tier expertise.
The Collective was founded in response to a growing need in the business community: access to flexible, embedded, executive-level sustainability leadership that is fully aligned with business priorities. The FSL Collective is led by incoming officers Craig Riley, Danielle Azoulay, and Brian Schoening—three seasoned sustainability practitioners dedicated to building a trusted, high-performing community that shares knowledge, sets a high bar for excellence, and delivers measurable results.
This launch comes at a critical time. Businesses face mounting pressure to deliver on sustainability goals, navigate regulatory complexity, and respond to ESG disclosure demands—often without the internal resources or budget to hire full-time executives. FSL Collective members offer a strategic and scalable solution.
Why FSL Collective and why now?
For Companies: As businesses navigate how to integrate sustainability into their operations—hiring an FSL provides the leadership and hands-on expertise needed to close internal gaps and move from intention to execution.
For Professionals: The FSL Collective is a peer-vetted community of senior-level sustainability leaders—offering connection, support, and a platform to define and elevate the practice of fractional sustainability leadership.
For Industries: The FSL Collective is shaping the future of sustainability leadership by promoting a flexible, pragmatic, and impact-driven model that reflects the realities of modern business—across all company sizes, sectors, and professional paths.
